We've been involved in many kinds of cases in Colombia, all of which are in some way related to the sixty year old civil conflict. First is a mass tort claim against Chiquita Brands by family members of people murdered in the banana zones. (follow link on right hand side of page for more information) Secondly, we attended the trials of FARC guerrillas Simon Trinidad and Sonia in Washington, D.C., and published approximately 75 daily summaries of what occurred, and appeared on Latin American television and radio about two dozen times to discuss them. Third, we're concerned with the extradition issue, and the widespread denial of due process rights to Colombian citizens wanted by the US. We have visited Combita prison in Colombia twice as well as advising several dozen of them on extradition issues on a pro bono basis. Fourth, we have a very popular Freedom of Information Act case against the CIA for files about Jorge Eliecer Gaitan, one of Colombia's great national heros. The murder of Gaitan on April 9, 1948 is often cited as the starting point of Colombia's civil war. Finally, we've organized several thousand documents obtained at the US National Archives (see link at left, under Historical Research) and made them into an outline of the history of the Colombian civil war.
