The Rights of Indigenous Peoples

Indigenous law falls into the category of international law because the rights of the indigenous people are often governed by treaties with the national government. Although in the US, at least, there has been a Trail of Broken Treaties over the last few hundred years, some recent efforts to enforce them have met with success.

We are interested in tribal rights and recogition, and the right of self determination of indigenous peoples in the Americas. We've helped indigenous leaders across the continental US and Hawaii, and in Colombia, to try to defend their people and their sovereignty.

We are also interested in the case of Leonard Peltier, who remains America's best known political prisoner, spending many decades in prison on the basis of false testimony. We've reviewed Peltier's FBI file and analyzed parts of it, and our conclusion is that Leonard Peltier was framed. The killing of FBI agents Coler and Williams remains among the scores of unsolved murders on the Pine Ridge reservation, most of which the FBI has not seen fit to investigate.
