In Iraq, we have an Alien Tort Claims Act case for the murder of a passenger in a car who was shot through the head by private security contractors when the car she was riding in got too close to a convoy of armored vehicles We also provided assistance to the defense team of Saddam Hussein in the form of researching and reviewing legal briefs challenging the jurisdiction of the Iraqi Special Tribunal. In October of 2007, we spoke in favor of the defense at an event at Case Western University sponsored by the prosecutors. The trial was not only war propaganda, but a poisonous precedent for the future of war crimes tribunals, as well as trials of insurgents in Iraq. We have a special interest in the estimated 10,000 people held without any legal process on suspicion of being insurgents, in prisons like Abu Ghraib. This situation has not received the attention that Guantanamo Bay has, although many more people are affected. We have some limited ability to communicate in Arabic and are working on improving that.
