Make the Grde February 1998 - Newsletter
Half Way There...
It's already February, and we've made it through midterms!! Congratulations to all of you.
Now is the time to organize your notebooks and file your first semester papers for future use.
Get some folders, and label them (Science, Math, etc.) and file your papers for future use.
Your finals may or may not include material from the early part of the year.
This month I want to give you some tips on notetaking. Notetaking is very important since it is
your record of what goes on during the class, and what is most important. The rub is that
sometimes it's hard to both take good notes AND listen to the points that the teacher is making
simultaneously.
And in most cases, it is difficult to study without good notes. One of the problems that people
encounter with notetaking is that they can not write quickly enough to keep up with the teacher.
Here are some "shorthand" methods that you can use to quicken your writing pace.

Also, create abbreviations for common terms or people discussed in your classes
(DNA, WS - for Shakespeare, etc.)
The point is to decrease writing time, increase listening time, and maintain quality of notes.
