Make the Grde - October 1997 - Newsletter
Just Like That...
It amazes me every year how it seems to take so so long for summer to arrive,
and then, it seems that summer is so so short. Further, once we're back at school|
just a few days, it seems like you never left....
So many of us have schedules that are filled "to the max".
Between classes and sports and activities and family responsibilities, and socializing,
there doesn't seem to be much time for anything else. We have daily, and short term and
long term obligations. This is why organization, and planning are critical to success
in and out of school.
The ability to 1) get 2) stay and 3) be organized has come to be called "Organization Skills".
Many schools now provide "homework books" or planners. This is a great way to keep track
of all your assignments on a day to day basis, and plan for important upcoming events.
If your school doesn't give you one, you should get one of your own right away.
Make the GrAde provides tutoring in "organizational skills" in addition to academic subjects,
the PSAT, SAT and the SAT 2 series. We work with students at every level from elementary
to the collegiate level.
Make the GrAde also provides support services to parents and students such as contact
with teachers, parent - teacher conferences, college application and college search services,
free seminars (see back page) and much more!
Thanks for your support and we look forward to working with you in the future.
Staying ahead
"Plan your work - Work your plan"
By the time you read this, we will be into the second month of school - almost half way
through the first quarter of the year! (already!?!?). The days of simply giving out books
and talking about course goals are long past, and each new day brings more new information
that needs to be mastered and new assignments that need to be done.
Here are some ways that you can be productive, save time, and get all your assignments done:
1. Be organized. Know what you have to do and when its due.
2. Do work in blocks of time. Do one assignment, finish it and them move on to the next.
Fragmented work is less time effective.
3. Plan Ahead. Plan for the longer term assignments like tests, lab reports, etc.
10 or 15 minutes a day over 2 weeks is much more effective than 4 hours in a night.
4. Call Make the GrAde. We are here to help with both subject matter, and organization.
